British Columbia (B.C.), Canada is definitely my next target after enjoying the tourist spots of Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. I was planning to travel last June 2012 but for some reason, it got pushed back from my bucket list.

Later on, my cousin, Jaime (a.k.a. Chancee), informed me that he’s flying to Winnipeg for a study tour and asked me if it’s possible for us to meet up. We both agreed to see each other in Vancouver and stay in one of our relatives place whom I haven’t met.

I was so pumped! I’ll be hitting four birds with one stone! Err… it would also be cute to say, with one airfare. Well, it’s surely worth it. I’ll be able to:
*** Chat with my cousin
*** Meet & bond with my new-found relatives
*** Take a well-deserved holiday
*** “Get to know” British Columbia

Indeed, God is good. Through His “magical hands”, the wonderful trip took place and it certainly paved the way to connect some of the missing links of my life.

So, what happened during the trip? Hmmm… I’ll let you know in a bit. :p

It’s definitely a must see video! I guarantee, you will have a good laugh! 😀

I’ve never experienced camping in this side of the world, hence, I was really looking forward to the first ever company camping at the Palliser Park Marina. Impediments such as upset tummy, last-minute change of transportation arrangements, lack of camping gears, and among other things did not stop TheCuriousMe from joining the said activity.

Initially, I requested to car pool with YW but something unexpected happened so I had to ask P and N for a ride. Thanks for making me feel welcome P and N!

The “shortcut” to our destination was to cross the Lake Diefenbaker via ferry. The ferry ride was awesome! I admit, it’s also my first time to board a ferry while inside the car. :p

The social committee agreed to designate the meal preparation to each team. For the booze and pop, everyone were encouraged to bring their favorites.

Overall, we had a great time! A good bonfire, colorful fireworks, interesting (!) chitchat, relaxing music, endless supply of food and booze, crazy antics, and hilarious moments. 😀

The camping activity indeed helped us bond, get to know each other on a more personal level and bring to light everyone’s quirks. It was an absolutely amazing discovery! I’m glad I joined.

Famous word of the entire weekend: Positivity!

P.S.
S’mores are so tasty! Right Alan? 🙂

With the excitement building up at the campsite, the group also can’t wait to head out to the beach to hang out during the day and watch the fireworks at night.

At first, I was baffled because I can’t find the usual white sand and big waves that I was accustomed to. I guess, I have somewhat a different definition of the word “beach”. Don’t shoot me please? I grew up in a tropical country wherein it’s summer all year round and beaches with white sand and big waves are all over the place. Oh. Did I just define “paradise”?

“paradise”

As a typical Asian, I have this love and hate relationship with the sun. Yeah, I always find myself hiding from the harmful sun rays since time immemorial. At the beach, Nathan R’s shirt served as my improvised umbrella. TP thought I looked funny. I must say, so long as I have a “shade”, it doesn’t matter if I looked weird.

Anyway, TP lent me her fancy “semi-tent” (i think, it’s called a montage) when we went to the beach the second time around. It certainly made a world difference from the “umbrella-shirt”. Totally cool! Ha!

Holy Week

The oldies used to tell us during Good Friday that Jesus Christ will die at 3:00 pm so we should observe silence. My curious mind (oh yes, I was really curious back then… thecuriousme suits me eh?  ) can’t seem to accept that and I felt that something’s wrong somewhere.

Observance of Holy Week includes not being noisy and eating meat was absolutely a big no no. So as a child, I always feel uneasy during Holy Week because of the Do’s and Don’ts that need to be followed as well as the concept behind it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not much of a devotee but I believe in God’s existence. I just don’t particularly agree with most of the Roman Catholic beliefs (no pun intended).  I practice a moment of silence to reflect and talk to Him, not only during Holy Week but almost everyday (sometimes I fall asleep while in the process of doing it… sorry Big Bro!) It’s a custom that I’m intending to keep in my lifetime. It’s absolutely worth the time and what’s more, it’s free of charge.

Anyhow, one thing that I looked forward to during Holy Week when I was a kid was the “Sabado Gloria” (Glorious Sabbath/Saturday). During this day, we hang out at the beach… swim (although I don’t know how to swim)… eat… chat… until we all get tired and decide to go home.

Recently, I discovered another Holy Week activity that unites people. It’s Easter Egg Hunting! Ha! For the first time in my life, I participated in our workplace and out of the six (6) eggs hidden, I found one (1). 😀 The prize? It’s Mrs. Fluffy (white chocolate that’s shaped like a rabbit)!

Have a good moment of silence everyone. Let’s all thank Him for sacrificing Jesus Christ, His only son, to save us from our sins. Thanks a lot Big Bro!

Bintan

I was still a newbie in Singapore when my newfound friends, Manager and Big Sis, invited me to tag along with them in going to Bintan, Indonesia. It was a combined birthday celebration of Manager and their other 2 friends. Roughly, there were 10 of us who travelled together via the ferry boat. It was my first time to ride a ferry and good thing, I did not feel sea sick during the 45-minute trip.

The birthday celebrants rented two villas for our accommodation. When we reached our destination, we ate our packed lunch and rested for few minutes then we immediately went to take a dip in the swimming pool.

After an hour or two, we went to the beach and played the “Pinoy Henyo” game (a game made famous by Eat Bulaga, the unbeatable noontime show in the Philippines). We were bubbly and into it that a lot of people were curiously looking at us with amused smile. 😉 After the game, some of them went for a half an hour swim at the beach.

The banana boat rental area was our next venue. We split into three groups and took turns in riding the banana boat. While waiting for our turn, we donned our life vests, planned a strategy and Manager gave a last minute instruction. It’s my first time to ride the banana boat so I was a bit nervous at the same time excited.:D

We were the last group (two guys and two ladies) to do the banana boat ride. Manager took the front row, next was Big Sis, then me, then the last one was Drew. From what Big Sis and I have understood in Manager’s last minute instruction, if one falls, the rest should also release their grip and dive. When Manager (intentionally) lose his balance and fell in the water, Big Sis released her grip and I also followed.

And yes! You guess it right, aside from not being blessed with a good singing voice, I don’t know how to swim. :p  No matter how I tried to imitate the frog kick (which I normally see from swimmers), I cannot get out from my location. I was so scared because we were in the middle of nowhere and we were in the deep part of the sea. I whispered a prayer and did my best not to panic as I listened to Manager’s instruction.

He asked me to move my feet like I’m cycling. I was able to move a bit but it’s extremely challenging. I don’t know how but I was able to reach the speedboat… I  think the wave helped me.

We all had a dinner in the other villa and played a couple of games. Although, I was the sole “outsider”, it didn’t feel like it because they all made me feel at home in their company.  I must say, it’s one event worthy to be treasured.

Not knowing how to sing and swim will never be a hindrance for me to enjoy life.  Wallowing in self pity is a waste of time.  As they say, imperfections make life more exciting.  Live life to the fullest. Aja! :p
