the one

Have you found “the one”? Or has “the one” got “stuck in traffic”? Whatever  stage  you are at, worrying and rushing won’t really help. Things will fall into place at the right time, just keep the faith… 😉

Valentine’s day is fast approaching so I thought this story might inspire some people.

I’ve been asked a number of times on how I met my husband  and how I knew that he’s the one.

My husband and I used to work in the same company together but we were in different departments and hardly spoke with one another. Come to think of it, I mostly mingle with the people I dealt with regularly.

Here’s how our first meeting went:
I was wandering around the office holding a large envelope when he approached me and asked “Are you looking for me?”.  (Apparently, he saw his name written on the envelope.)

With a blank stare, I replied with a frosty “No” and walked away.

After several months, we ended up chatting and learned that we both like to watch anime at some point in our lives. We started talking about Ranma ½, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Naruto, Slam Dunk, etc.. Exchanging emails, chatting and going out for a hot beverage every now and then led to a good friendship.

At that stage of my life, I was no longer interested in entering a relationship and was planning to be single for life. I was already in my 30s and was  seriously considering “the back up plan” (similar to the movie “The Back Up Plan”… check it out if you haven’t seen it yet).

Although he had been single for almost four years, he was a bit apprehensive to start dating again after getting out of a draining 5-year relationship.

Cupid probably worked overtime to get us together because it took awhile before the friendship blossomed into a relationship.

Did it go smoothly?
Nope.

The first three months was a roller coaster ride.

On top of all the typical challenges that a relationship has, we also needed to work out our cultural differences and language barrier. Suffice to say, we had some hurdles to overcome; I prayed daily that the relationship end sooner than later if he wasn’t “the one”.

As they say, if it’s meant to be… it will be.

The key to overcoming our differences was communication, compromise, and saying sorry when you’re at fault.

The rest is history.

After two years of dating, we had our wedding 1.0 followed by wedding 2.0. Why two weddings?

Hmmm…. until next post… 🙂

Jack

It was a busy day when a cute little 3-year old boy named Jack, dropped by in our workplace together with his Dad. Jack’s Dad is one of the executives in the company. While his Dad was having an informal chat with a visitor, Jack made sure that his presence is felt by joining the conversation every now and then.

Jack

I can’t help but hear his endless chatter because my area was like three steps away from his Dad’s. When they were preparing to go, Jack saw me.

The conversation went this way:
Jack: Dad, can I say hi to her?
Dad:  Of course Jack.
(With a wide smile on Jack’s face, he walked gleefully towards my direction.)

Jack: Hi!
(I stood up and went to introduce myself and shook his hand)

Me: Hi Jack! I’m TheCuriousMe. How are you today?
(Jack looked absolutely delighted to be treated like a grown up.)

Jack: Where is your little boy? (with a wide grin on his face)
(Whoa! That caught me off guard!)

Me: I don’t have a little boy Jack,  can I take you home instead?
(Jack shook his head and gave me a big smirk.:D)

Dad: That’s a personal question Jack. Sorry, my little boy is a bit shy.
Jack: I’m not shy!

And the day ended with resounding laughters. Bow. 😉

I was seated not far from the two ladies who were chatting happily (one lady was holding a bouquet of flowers and a card). As usual, I had an invisible bulwark set up around me as I prepare myself to take a “travel nap”.  My barricade was shattered when the lady holding the card animatedly asked her friend about something.  It’s loud enough for all of the passengers inside the bus to hear.

“travel nap”

The conversation went this way:
Lady 1:  Do I look like 59?
(TheCuriousMe Note: Lady 1 was holding the bouquet of flowers while reading the card… It’s obviously her birthday.)

Lady 2:  No.
Lady 1:  Oh! Thank you!
(TheCuriousMe: She’s absolutely delighted with her friend’s answer because she flashed a bright smile! Oh boy! )

In my little corner, I nearly blurted out, “No, you look like you’re 70″. Good thing I controlled my mouth, I don’t want to burst her bubble. I don’t even know them. Bad me. :p Though my “travel nap” was boorishly  severed, I was still grinning mischievously. Darn! I must be going berserk. Am I making any sense?  This must be the effect of not having a restful sleep.

Until then! Mwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwa!

james

James is my 6-year old adorable and quickwitted nephew who taught me how to play beyblade, Wii, and Xbox. He also wanted to teach me how to play Bakugan but I kept giving excuses. :p

In any case, below are some of his cute funny moments:

Credit Card
James: Mom, can I borrow your credit card?
Mom: Why James? What do you need it for?
James: I want to buy toys for free.
Mom: What do you mean for free?
James: Because if you use a credit card, you don’t spend money. You just swipe the card! You should use it more often Mom.

Can you believe it? He already had that concept at such a young age. omg!
Note: It was later on explained to him that the credit card is paid through the bank.

Phone
James: Hey Tita, why are you always using your phone?
Tita (TheCuriousMe): Because you’re always using my laptop James. I’m using my phone to surf the internet, chat, browse facebook, listen to music, watch videos, and write articles for my site.
James: Is it a phone laptop?
Me (TheCuriousMe): Yes James.

James stopped talking and was in deep thought for a moment. Then he suddenly grab his Nintendo DS and dash off to the bathroom. Maybe to internalize how “phone laptop” works. I’m sure he will figure it out when he’s few years older.

School
Me: James, will you be in Grade 5 next school year?
James: No, I will be in Grade 2.
(Note: He’s currently in Grade 1.)

Me: How come? Can’t you choose? What if you want to be in Grade 6?
James: That can’t be. I need to pass through grade by grade.
(Note: His expression is really serious and he sounds like we are discussing a very crucial topic)

I just smiled. Another lesson from James eh? To sum it up, we can never climb Mount Everest in just one day. We can never move a mountain with one push. There’s no shortcut. It should be taken one step at a time. Aja!

Moreover, one thing that he can’t live without is Pinky! It’s a pink stuff toy that was bought before he was born. His Mom thought she will give birth to a baby girl but it turned out that it’s a boy! Sans James and Pinky are like twins, simply inseparable!

That’s my nephew, James. Isn’t he adorable?
