Boston

Shara, Juvy, Fritchie and I have talked about travelling together so many times but it has never materialized. One lazy weekend… we were chatting about needing a short break to recharge and before you know it we agreed to meet up in Boston in two weeks time! Woot!

It happened so fast that we were scrambling to find cheap flights… a nearly impossible feat! If it weren’t for Aeroplan points, I wouldn’t even have made it. However it wasn’t only flights that were expensive… everything in Boston was!

Thankfully, a generously awesome goddess (code name: Atlantis) covered the hotel bill and two angels named Richard and Julia lovingly prepared and packed a delicious home cooked meal for us. Salamat po (Thank you)! 🙂

What I love most about Boston is the European feel, magnificent tourist spots, awesome food choices (love the Boston cream pie!), and most of all, the superb and friendly Lift drivers.

Would I like to go back? Absolutely! I want to complete the exploration of the freedom trail, take a more detailed tour in Harvard and probably, join the 5K Boston marathon. 🙂

Check out the highlights of our trip:

Next trip, I’ll borrow the scissor for Fritchie. Promise. 😀 Kitakitz (See you)!

Sasa & Gege

In as much as I would like to be a silent follower of Sasa (Sarah Geronimo) & Gege (Gerald Anderson)… I must say, I could no longer contain it!  I’m now a super fan! My little sisters, Fritchie Anderson and DJ Mitch, are now getting infected with my “contagious” admiration for Sasa & Gege! Ha! (Click here to read related article about Sasa & Gege- “birth”)

Sasa & Gege

I’m really going bonkers! Out of the blue (whether I’m on the street walking or in the work place or wherever), I would “belt out” the theme songs of their two (2) movie-team up, I won’t last a day without you and Fallin’. And of course, its out of tune! :p

Catch Me I’m In Love (“Fallin'”)

Won’t Last a Day Without You

Their love team & courtship stage is sending followers all over the world in frenzy! An “old” lady like me can even feel a shiver down my spine just by watching them (even if they are just looking at each other!). Their love story is absolutely an epic!

***Note: If you can’t understand Tagalog, just watch their actions. 😀

Sarah, being a true blue Filipina (in all ways), is definitely a rare gem! Her preference for her suitors to woo her parents first makes her a  total knock out!  Considering that Gege (a Filipino – American) grew up in the U.S.A., it’s fascinating to see how he abides to Sarah’s wish and follow the Filipino old-fashioned way of courtship. Also, he’s all out in shouting to the world how much he cares for Sasa, protecting her and makes time to be with her even if his schedule is so hectic! Whew! Weaklings can’t do that right M.A. and T.W.? :p

Whether we admit it or not, we all dream of this kind of courtship and relationship. By watching Sasa and Gege’s friendship transform into something special makes us realize that dreams do come true. I guess, that’s the reason why a lot of people (young and old) are drawn to their blossoming relationship and magical moments. Aside from giving an automatic smile on our face, it certainly gives hope and inspiration to all of us.   Agree?

Gege visiting Sasa in her TV Commercial shoot

By respecting their privacy to date freely will definitely ease up the pressure that they are receiving right now. Like what the Popsters, Ashralds, and other Sasa & Gege’s supporters always say, the best way to help them is to work hand in hand in praying for their relationship to last a lifetime. They deserve it! Let’s unite in spreading positive vibes!

Now, while patiently waiting for the next chapter of their love story… I’ll continue reading Kate Joaquin’s “Never Gonna Let You Go – AshRald Fan Fiction” and BornToShare’s (Does anyone know BornToShare’s real name?) “Slowly But Surely – AshRald Fan Fiction”. “AshRald Fan Fictions” are  an ongoing imaginary tale about Sasa & Gege.

*** Note: I haven’t met Kate yet but I saw her “script” via Facebook. She’s a 17-year old fan of Sasa & Gege. And she has the making of an excellent writer! Whoa! I suggest you check it out. Keep it up Kate! 😀

*** Note:I just discovered the Slowly But Surely – AshRald Fan Fiction!  Please give me a buzz if you know the writer’s name so that I can post it on my blog. 🙂 I’m so excited to start reading it. I’m sure it’s as awesome as Never Gonna Let You Go. Wheeey!  Way to go BornToShare! 😉

***Update: I’ve read Slowly But Surely and I admit… I cried!!!!!!!!!! OMG! Wendelyn Dianne (@wendelyndianne)  is such a passionate writer! You betcha! Finally, after researching her name for ages, I found it! Thanks to Kate (@imisshockends) for ending my “agony”. 😀 I’m just so happy because they are also now my twitter friends. I love AshRald and AshRaldTOS! 🙂

P.S. OMG, did I just sound like a PR Manager for Sasa & Gege?

birth

It felt like a million years had passed since my last post. Ha! Did you miss me?

We had a long weekend last week but for some reason, I did not manage to write even a single article. I was able to rest, recharge, and unwind for a bit though.

Anyhow, last Sunday night, I was fiddling with my phone and checking some Filipino YouTube videos when I saw Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson’s production number in ABS-CBN’s variety show, ASAP. Their “electrifying chemistry” was so evident that I felt some goosebumps while watching them. Sarah and Gerald (a.k.a. Sasa & Gege) are both famous celebrities in the Philippines (and all over the world where there is a Filipino channel).

So, why am I blabbering about them? Honestly, I’m not an avid fan. However, after spending 3 hours of my Sunday night and 12 hours of my Monday searching YouTube videos about them, I was completely hooked! It’s crazy! I can’t stop giggling and smiling while watching their interviews, production numbers, the “Sasa & Gege” web show, and most especially the series of enchanting videos on the Sasa & Gege “love” story made by the Ashrald (group of avid Sasa & Gege fans). I was totally impressed!

I’m fully aware that I’m too old for this twitterpated (a.k.a. “kilig”) moments but what the heck. I can’t help it! :p Watching Sasa and Gege is a perfect stress reliever! What I find it endearing is that, they emit sparks and positive energy without being sensual. It’s similar to NOT wearing revealing clothes yet you still exude x-factor and undeniable appeal. You know what I mean.;)

Sasa and Gege is such a refreshing pair. I like Sasa because she’s the epitome of a true blue Filipina. She deserves to be happy and free.  My fondness for Gege started when he made Sasa smile again.

hmmm… 😀

Truly, Sasa & Gege is a birth of a new smile… new hope… and new love(?).  🙂

o.f.w. journey (part 2 of 2)

And the story continues…
(lost? check out first o.f.w. journey (part 1 of 2) to be on track.:) )

Before I went to Singapore, I was advised by James Lee to first apply for an Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate (EPEC) so that I will be allowed to stay there for one  year. However, my EPEC application was rejected. 😦

Nevertheless, that did not deter me from flying to Singapore. :p The one month visit pass that was given to me (plus another month extension which is of course subject for approval) needs to be maximized. Stretching my limited budget which can only last for 1.5 months or maximum of two months was also a big challenge.

At that time, I was aiming to clinch a job during my first week of stay but sadly, it did not happen. One acquaintance even mentioned that I will not be able to find work there at all! Deep in my heart I felt like I hit the rock bottom but I just ignored her.

When I did not receive any calls for interview after five days, I was upset. I kept thinking that maybe there’s something wrong with my qualifications or skill set. I was already thinking of my plan B, plan C, plan D, and plan E at that time.

Out of frustration, I opened up this “tiny” problem with my friend, TheSoulfulVixen,  when I was chatting with her via yahoo messenger (YM). And she suggested that I need to totally revise my resume. Ha!  On the 6th day, I did a complete revamp of my resume. Whoa! I never thought that editing a resume was so intricate and chews a lot of time!

And guess what? On the 10th day, while I was out gallivanting, I received a call. It was a phone interview and then she asked me to go for a personal interview the next day. I was so excited and absolutely nervous!

The funny thing was, I did not take down the address properly. Good thing, I was able to come across the address via yellowpages.com. Thanks to Tim Berners-Lee for inventing the World Wide Web.   Joan (James Lee’s sister) and Jessie (Joan;s’ boyfriend) accompanied me to check out the location of the company so that I won’t get lost. I felt really special because they were so nice to me even though they don’t really know me that well.

After a restful sleep and before going to the interview location, I prayed intently. And in order to calm my nerves, I watched “Achmed the Dead Terrorist” in youtube and listened to jazz music.

The gruelling interview lasted for more than one hour and I was grilled to the maximum level. One dilemma that I faced was on how to assimilate the words that the interviewer was saying. Maybe I just got used to the American “twang” from my previous job. -_-

Nonetheless, I felt that I was able to answer the questions in a confident manner while the butterflies in my stomach were doing somersaults. The interviewer advised that I will be informed via email if I will be shortlisted for the third interview the next day.

Lunch time during the next day, I was feeling jittery. I haven’t received any email. It later dawned on me that I was not chosen. I was awfully disappointed but life must go on so I started sending again my resume online.

While doing a non-stop job search, I received a call at 3 p.m. from the interviewer. She’s asking why I was not there for the third interview. I told her that I did not receive any email. We talked for a moment and we agreed to re-schedule the third inteview that same day at 5 p.m…

To cut the story short (which is now very long O_O), I got the job offer on that day (12th day of my stay in Singapore). Ooopzie! I can’t work yet though. The next step? The company needs to apply for my work pass at the Ministry of Manpower (Note: Even if I found the job, I need to get the work pass in order for me to legally work and stay there.).

The application can be done manually (30 days processing) or online (7 days processing). The company opt to do it manually since it’s their first time to employ a foreigner. The processing  took nearly 30 days! All the same, I was grateful because my work pass was approved.

As I look back, being down and weeping like crazy almost everyday does not give you the license to give up and do the easy way out. That was absolutely a big no no for me. The following kept me going:

  • prayers (including the prayers from my family and friends – thank you so much! 😀 )
  • watching Jeff Dunham’s “Achmed the Dead Terrorist” in YouTube (it never fails to tickle my funny bones. )
  • watching Coffee Prince in crunchyroll
  • watching Eat Bulaga (yes, we do have PinoyTV channel :D)
  • chatting with my friends and relatives via Yahoo Messenger
  • receiving text messages from my friends and relatives

Rough roads are part of life… We just need to learn how to bounce back instead of drowning in self pity and blaming others for whatever happened in our lives.

Take every single day as a blessing and a journey to a new beginning… Aja!

iphone

I admit, no matter how fabulous the advantages of using an iphone presents, I still dilly- dally. At that time, my drive to start my blog site was very low. The motivation that I’ve been looking seem to sunk down in oblivion. However, my momentum resurrected and went on a steady beat when I break free from the claws of a dangerous creature.

So, it took me two years to weigh the pros and cons before I finally decided to buy an iPhone.  The convenience of using the iPhone to “pen” down my thoughts and immediately upload it to my blog site writing while in the train, bus or wherever I am was the deciding factor.

Thank you Steve Jobs for being the greatest innovator of all times (in my point of view that is…) :p Now, my iPhone became a part of my daily routine. It’s the last thing that I check before I go to sleep and the first thing that I look for when I wake up.

The practicality and usefulness of the iphone allowed me to utilize my time wisely.  Aside from writing articles, I was also able to do the following:

  • read and reply comments in thecuriousme.com and Facebook
  • listen to wave radio
  • watch youtube videos
  • check email
  • pay bills via internet banking
  • chat via yahoo messenger
  • surf the internet
  • check out directions via Google map

I decided to sell it (see transfer of ownership) due to unavoidable circumstances. It’s pretty agonizing because I’m letting go the most amazingl gadget that I’ve ever had so far. Of course, the laptop is also useful but iphone comes in handy at all times.

At any rate, life must go on. Who knows, I will get another one in the near future. Maybe by that time, Steve Jobs has already developed a phone that can enable people to teleport. Ha! :p

roller blades

My fascination with roller blades started after watching the movie Cutting Edge. I just got the nerve to try it out last 2008 and stopped first quarter of 2010. At first I rented the roller blades twice and when I chance upon a sale item, I immediately bought a pair!

Learning roller blades was not an easy endeavor especially if the process of learning is through YouTube videos instead of attending a formal training. :p It’s unconventional but that’s how I did it.  I practiced the moves that I saw in YouTube at the grassy section of the East Coast Park (Singapore) near the beach. After I get the hang of it, that’s the time I moved to the cemented path.

Falling and colliding with kids cycling scared the hell out of me. I feel ecstatic though when I managed to glide 0.5 kilometer without a glitch. It’s both terrifiying and exhilarating experience!

In the process, I accumulated several souvenir scars. Good thing the bruises disappeared or else I would look like a human punching bag. -_-  It’s been quite sometime since I used my roller blades. I need to get accustomed to it again before I can glide on my own. I hope I can find someone who can teach me the correct moves.

Until then! Aja! :p

hostage

I was contemplating whether I should write this post or not because I know it’s a sensitive topic. Nevertheless, as an individual who experienced losing a love one at a young age, I decided to go for it.

The hostage taking that happened in the Philippines and resulted to several casualties was a heartbreaking moment that affected a lot of people all over the world. Numerous arguments have been going around coupled with pointing fingers and covering ass. This “shifting the blame” game can never  bring back the lives that were taken. In any case, justice MUST be served.

Losing a loveone in a very tragic manner is very traumatic and painful. I was on the same boat few years back so I perfectly understand what they are going through. My mother died in a vehicular accident when I was 13 which nearly cause my father’s life as well. To top it off, the driver run away and eventually surrendered to the authorities. It was agonizing back then but now I can say I’ve moved forward.

I would like to share what my nephew posted on his Facebook. This is the link to Andrew Philip’s view on the hostage taking in the Philippines.
Here you go.

I hope in the long run, time will heal all wounds. My deepest sympathy to the victims and their family.
